Windsor police have arrested a suspect in three convenience store robberies that happened early Wednesday morning.
The string of robberies took place between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. around the South Walkerville area. In each of the robberies, a man entered the stores with his face covered and brandished a weapon.
The first case happened on Tecumseh Road East near Lincoln Road. As the man was waving a weapon and demanding cash from the employee a customer entered the store. They were able to leave and call 911. The man assaulted the employee, who suffered minor injuries. The man stole a quantity of merchandise and took off.
Next, a convenience store on Walker Road near Ledyard Avenue was targeted. The man entered the store took out what appeared to be a handgun and robbed the store of merchandise and cash. A patron was also robbed at gunpoint. No injuries were reported.
A store on Ottawa Street near Windermere was also robbed Wednesday morning close to 8 a.m. The man again used what looked like a handgun and demanded cash from the employee. The employee and man engaged in an altercation and the man dropped two items. The man took off and was seen getting into the passenger side of a vehicle. Police later confirmed the man dropped a black pellet gun and an orange flare gun.
Investigators believe the same person is responsible for all three incidents. They were able to identify a suspect and vehicle involved. A suspect was arrested at a home on Cadillac Street Wednesday evening.
Police say the man will be charged with a number of robbery and firearm-related charges. His name will not be released until the charges are officially filed with the courts.
