Essex seeks residents to form a climate team

If you live in Essex and want to help shape climate policy, the town would like to hear from you.

The town is looking for interested residents and stakeholders to take part in the Essex Climate Adaptation Team (ECAT). This group will work with the town's administration in finding ideas to reduce climate vulnerability, improve climate adaptation, and protect resources while looking for economic opportunities and ways to keep costs down.

Mayor Larry Snively said the town is encouraging anyone with some knowledge of the climate situation to contact town hall.

"As a municipality, we need to draw on the knowledge of our citizens and stakeholders who know our community best," said Snively. "This is a great chance to work together to help our municipality adapt and prepare for the impacts of climate change."

The town is looking for people with interest in developing climate adaptation strategies, representing sectors such as agriculture, business, infrastructure, health and recreation. People who live and-or work in Essex will be given preference, though anyone who is interested may contact the town. Youth team members are also being sought.

The plan as of now is for ECAT team members to meet quarterly throughout 2020 at various community facilities across Essex, though this may be adjusted due to member feedback.

Anyone interested in becoming a part of ECAT should visit the official website. Applications are due January 31.
