UPDATE: Day camps available in case of strike

The City of Windsor, the Town of LaSalle and the Town of Lakeshore and Town of Essex are offering day camps should schools close on Wednesday.

Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation have announced they will hold a one-day walkout affecting schools in Windsor-Essex on January 8. All elementary and secondary schools with the Greater Essex County District School Board will be closed along with local schools in the French public board.

Should an agreement not be reached, day camps will be offered at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex and the Optimist Community Centre in Windsor. The cost is $32 for the day. Parents wishing to secure a spot for their child can register at any time at any of the city's community centres.

In LaSalle, day camps will be offered at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Centre for $35 per child.  Parents can drop off their children as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick them up no later than 5:30 p.m.

The camps are being offered for children between the ages of four and 12, and parents are asked to pre-register online or at the Vollmer Centre.

If there is no walkout on Wednesday, officials in LaSalle said parents will get a refund.

In Lakeshore, the day camps will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Atlas Tube Centre for children four to 11 years-old. The cost will be $40 per child.

All EarlyON Child and Family Centre’s located within GECDSB schools will also be closed.
