There are many ways to recycle your real Christmas tree after the holiday season.
Curbside pickup in residential areas of Leamington happens January 2-3. In Amherstburg, trees will be collected on Monday, January 6, and Monday, January 13. Real Christmas trees will be collected curbside in Tecumseh on January 13, 2020.
In the City of Windsor, residential curbside pickup starts January 7 and runs until January 17, 2020. To check when trees will be collected in your area, click here. Any yard waste left over from the fall will also be collected on these designated days.
All decorations, ornaments, tree stands etc. must be removed from the trees prior to collection. The trees are mulched for wood chips for use throughout the municipalities.
In LaSalle, trees can be dropped off at River Canard Park, Gil Maure Park, Optimist Park, Heritage Park, Vince Marcotte Park or the Public Works Building on Judy Recker Dr. The trees will be chipped into mulch for town projects and are also used on Fighting Island for natural regeneration. Trees will be collected into February.
Residents in Kingsville can drop off their real Christmas trees to Lakeside Park, the Kingsville Arena, the Kingsville dog park (on Heritage Road) or Ridgeview Park.
In Lakeshore, trees can be dropped off before January 31, 2020, to the Comber Community Centre, Centennial Park, Leffler Park, Fire Station #2, Woodslee Memorial Park, or the former Belle River arena site on Rourke Line Rd.
Residents in Essex can drop their live trees off in the Co-An Park parking lot, the Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre or the Kinsmen Field House parking lot.
According to Public Works staff at the City of Windsor, around three saplings are planted in the spring for every tree harvested at Christmas. However, if you are concerned with the environmental impact having a live Christmas tree is having you may want to consider recycling the tree right in your own backyard as recommended by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
