Flooding possible in Leamington

With heavy winds and high water levels, there's a possibility of flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline between Wheatley Harbour and Point Pelee National Park Friday.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says current and forecasted wind conditions, as well as water levels in Lake Erie, are currently below Flood Watch thresholds. However, they believe there is an increased risk of flooding or shoreline erosion in the area east of Point Pelee.

The authority advises that people should avoid areas where flooding occurs. The combination of slippery banks, waves, waves overtopping shoreline structures, and fast-moving water can be dangerous.

ERCA is also keeping an eye on water levels along the flood control dykes within the Little River Drain corridor in Windsor.

They'll be keeping a close eye on conditions until 8:00 p.m. Friday when the threat is expected to subside.
