The Windsor Police Problem Oriented Police Unit is getting some of the credit for a 16.67 per cent drop in property crime in October.
There were 1090 property crimes reported in October 2019, 218 less than in October of 2018 and 184 less than in September.
Deputy Chief Brad Hill credited the decrease to an increased police presence.
"That helps us, it cuts down on the number of cars that are being broken into and we're seeing some successes there. Crime is coming down," said Hill.
Hill said it's difficult to quantify how effective the POP unit has been.
"If a police officer is standing on the corner or a police car standing on a corner causes you not to have a crime, you don't have a stat to prove that. We only have stats on crimes that occur," said Hill.
Overall crime in October was down around five per cent compared to October 2018.
