The Windsor Police Service Board will have a new policy on how to handle calls involving the chief of police.
Board members met with the Ministry of the Solicitor General to discuss how a call to the former police chief's residence last fall was handled.
"What they said to us in this meeting is that really what you did in terms of the actions you took and the steps that were taken to get the information to the board chair and then to the board itself were the most appropriate in the circumstances," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, chair of the Windsor Police Service Board.
The next step for the board is to put those steps in writing to create an official policy.
"Our intent now is to codify the actions that we took so that in the future it will be in directive to members of the Windsor Police Service how they would act in terms of conflict of interest when the chief is involved in a call," said Dilkens.
Dilkens said they started this discussion because they noticed a gap in the policy. However, the Ministry of the Solicitor General noted to them that once the policy is in place the Windsor Police Service will be one of the first to have a policy of this nature.
