Amherstburg kicks off River Lights Winter Festival

A Christmas tradition gets underway in Amherstburg this weekend.

Saturday, the River Lights Winter Festival begins and runs through to January 5 in downtown Amherstburg.

"There is nothing like a walkable downtown where businesses welcome guests meandering through the charming olde town centre aglow with enchanting, sparkling lights," said Manager of Tourism and Culture, Anne Rota.

The festivities start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday until 8:30 p.m. with the Essex Region Conservation Authority Super Santa Run at Happier Camper on Dalhousie Street.

The Gingerbread Warming House in Toddy Jones Park will have hot chocolate and a chance for the kids to decorate their holiday cookies.

At 6 p.m., the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony starts, followed by an outdoor showing of the movie "The Grinch that Stole Christmas," and fireworks.
