The fire broke out around 8:15 p.m. Thursday. A man was pulled from the building but later succumbed to his fire-related injuries. Windsor Fire Services determined the fire was intentionally set.
A further investigation by the Windsor police arson unit determined the deceased male was allegedly responsible for setting the fire.
Due to his passing, no criminal charges are anticipated.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
