Members of Greater Essex ETFO hold strike vote Thursday

Public elementary school teachers and occasional teachers represented by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario will hold a strike vote.

Voting starts at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, with results expected after 7:30 p.m.

The meeting is in the Augustus Ballroom at Caesars Windsor.

The issues at stake are ones being bargained by the central bargaining team, not those being negotiated with the Greater Essex County District School Board.

The central bargaining committee has been negotiating with the province for more support for students with special needs, maintaining smaller class sizes, protecting full-day kindergarten, and transparent hiring practices.

On Wednesday, it requested a conciliator in collective bargaining with the province saying talks were at a standstill.

Votes involving 83,000 members have been held across the province during September and October.
