Senior in wheelchair succumbs to injuries after being struck

An 85-year-old has died from their injuries after a hit and run in Leamington earlier in the week.

According to provincial police, around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a vehicle struck an electric wheelchair while exiting the driveway of The Superstore on Talbot Street East, causing the female occupant to fall out.

The woman was transported to the hospital with what was thought to be non-life threatening injuries. However, on Saturday afternoon, OPP said that 85-year-old Joyce Morency has since passed away from the injuries sustained.

The vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene and was last seen travelling westbound on Talbot St East. Provincial police in Leamington are appealing for any information regarding the driver or details about the vehicle. Witnesses are asked to come forwarded and businesses to check surveillance camera's for a gold-coloured vehicle similar to a Buick Rendezvous.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or any other is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
