Windsor police have identified a suspect in connection with a "distraction" theft this summer.
The WPS Financial Crimes Unit was able to identify the man through surveillance camera footage, but investigators said he fled the area with his whereabouts unknown.
The incident happened on August 20 outside a business on Dougall Avenue near West Grand Boulevard. While sitting in her car after leaving the business, an older woman was approached by a man who told her that she had dropped money. The man reached into the car to give the woman the money, and it’s believed during that time, he was able to swipe the woman’s bank card.
The woman later noticed her bank card was missing and immediately reported it to her financial institution. An undisclosed amount of cash was already taken from her bank account.
George Agapie, 50, of no fixed address, is wanted by police. He is facing charges of theft of a credit card, possession of stolen property, use of a credit card obtained through crime, fraud under $5,000, and breach of recognizance.
