United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County hopes local donors will open their wallets wide this year to support their efforts to combat child poverty.
Windsor-Essex has the highest rate of childhood poverty in the country, with one in three children in the west end of Windsor living below the poverty line. As United Way embarks on a new Cradle to Career strategy, it hopes to raise $5.2-million during its fall campaign.
"We love where we live, but local issues like childhood poverty are harming our local community," said chair Matt Brannagan. "We're making this local issue unignorable."
This year, the campaign will use the hashtag "#UNIGNORABLE" on social media. Marketing this year will include art prints from Canadian artist Malika Favre.
LaSalle artist and spoken word poet, Kat Moscone is also featured in a video released by United Way to bring attention to their cause.
