Windsor resident collects half a million and change

A Windsor man's trip to the store has made him over a half-million dollars richer.

Michel Lalonde won a total of $500,020 playing the OLG game Daily Grand. The winning ticket, purchased at the Hasty Market on Tecumseh Road East near Rivard Avenue, was for the September 19 draw.

The game's second prize is a payment of $25,000 a year for life. Lalonde chose to take the one-time payout of $500,000 rather than receive a yearly payment. In addition to the half-million-dollar prize, Lalonde won an additional $20 by matching three out of five numbers on his Daily Grand ticket.

The September 16 and 19 draws featured five bonus draws for $25,000 a year for life in addition to the main draw.

According to Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG), Daily Grand is available at $3 per play. The grand prize is $1,000 a day for the life of the winner who matches five main numbers plus the Grand Number. The second prize is $25,000 a year for the life of the winner who matches only the five main numbers.
