Some business owners and government employees will be taking a break on Monday.
Summer is officially winding down in Windsor-Essex, with Labour Day being the end of summer break for students across Ontario. Labour Day is a statutory holiday, which means all federal, provincial and municipal government offices and services will be closed. There will be no Canada Post delivery.
Service Ontario offices are closed Monday. Residents can still perform certain transactions online, such as licence plate and some driver licence renewals.
All banks and financial institutions are closed on Labour Day.
All LCBO locations will be closed Monday, with regular hours resuming Tuesday. The Beer Store is opening 64 locations across Ontario on Monday for the first time. This includes two in Windsor, at 2380 Walker Road and 8150 Tecumseh Road East. Both are open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All Windsor Public Library and Essex County Library branches will be closed Monday. Regular hours resume for both on Tuesday.
Devonshire Mall will be open on Labour Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also, Tecumseh Mall’s hours Monday are noon to 5 p.m., while Windsor Crossing Outlet Mall is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The 311 call centre will be closed Monday with regular hours resuming Tuesday. The 211 line will be answered throughout Windsor-Essex 24 hours a day as usual.
Residential garbage collection in Windsor will not take place Monday and will be delayed one day. Night commercial collection and weekly recycling will take place as usual. The public garbage and household chemical waste drop-off depot at Central Ave. and E.C. Row will be closed. For more information, visit the city's official website.
All Windsor community centres and arenas will be closed on Labour Day except for previously-scheduled rentals. All customer care centres will also be closed.
All city of Windsor outdoor pools will be closed on Monday. The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre is closed, but the fitness centre is open Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Labour Day with Starlight admission rates in effect. The water park will then close for its annual maintenance from Tuesday through Wednesday, September 11. Fall hours will begin on Thursday, September 12.
There will be no parking enforcement in Windsor on Monday, and all metered street parking will be free. All parking enforcement offices are closed, but payments can still be made online.
Transit Windsor buses will run on their Sunday-holiday schedules Labour Day, along with the tunnel bus to Detroit. The terminal on Chatham Street West will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
