UPDATE: Man charged in serious Windsor stabbing

A man has been charged following a stabbing in the downtown area Friday morning.

Windsor police Sergeant Steve Betteridge said officers were called to Wyandotte Street East at Glengarry Avenue shortly before 7:30 a.m. The initial investigation showed that a fight had taken place at that location and one person was stabbed. The victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A description of a suspect was then obtained, and officers spotted a man matching the description in the area around 8 a.m. Betteridge said the man was arrested without incident.

The suspect has been identified as Zachary Durham, 21, of Windsor. He is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and breach of probation. These charges have yet to be proven in court.

The road was blocked in both directions between Glengarry Avenue and Mercer Street, but has since re-opened. Police tape bounded a section of Wyandotte East along with an area of the park including a corner plaza and a bus stop.

Anyone with information is asked to call Windsor police or Crime Stoppers.
