Windsor police are happy so far when it comes to the boating ban on local waterways.
Police said the marine unit has been active on the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair and has found that most boaters are following the rules to prevent shoreline erosion and overland flooding of properties.
The City of Windsor and the Windsor Port Authority issued a shoreline boating ban in mid-July and extended it for 30 days in early August after record high water levels on local waterways. Boaters are still being urged not to use the motors on their vessels within 30 metres of shore due to concerns that the wake will cause damage to waterfront property.
"The 30-metre ban remains in effect. Our initiative has focused on education, and officers have found that most boaters are aware of the ban, and compliance is high," said Windsor police.
Fines for individual boaters can reach $5,000 and $50,000 for corporations or ships that break the ban. A warning will be issued first.

Police thank the boating community for helping.
The boating ban will be re-evaluated in early September.
