Windsor Police Dog Rolex recovering after first bust

It didn't take long for new Windsor police dog Rolex to get his first bust.

He assisted officers in arresting a robbery suspect over the weekend just five days after being introduced as the newest police dog in Windsor.

Police said officers were called to a robbery on Randolph Avenue, just south of Wyandotte Street, shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday. A woman reported that an ex-boyfriend had just robbed her of some property and ran away.

Moments later, another report came in about a man who matched the description of the robbery suspect running between houses in the area. The canine unit found a suspect hiding behind a tree but he allegedly decided to run again. Rolex and his partner, Constable Marc Tremblay, chased the suspect and made an arrest.

The suspect was allegedly found with several items reported stolen in the robbery, and some cocaine. He is charged with robbery, resisting arrest, possession of cocaine, not following bail conditions, and theft.

The male suspect is from Windsor but can't be named to protect the identity of the victim.

Rolex was kicked during the takedown and is recovering, but he is expected to return to duty very soon. The victim and the suspect also suffered non-life threatening injuries.
