Hearing dates set to appeal and defend new hospital site in Windsor

A date has been set for a hearing regarding the location of the new acute care hospital in Windsor.

A group called The Citizens for an Accountable Mega-Hospital Planning Process (CAMPP) is appealing the hospital's location.

On Friday, the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) notified Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) of the dates.

October 8, 9 and 10, 2019, have been set aside for the appeal hearing surrounding the City of Windsor County Road 42 Secondary Plan. The hearing will be held at Windsor City Hall in Council Chambers, starting at 10 a.m.

"Windsor Regional Hospital is very pleased that dates have been set for the hearing of the appeal," said Allison Johnson, manager of communications at WRH.

LPAT is the former Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) and hears cases regarding municipal planning, financial and land matters.

WRH has previously said that any delay to this very important infrastructure project needs to be avoided because it negatively impacts patient care.

A parcel of land at County Road 42 and the 9th Concession has been selected for the new hospital but CAMPP is appealing the location because it believes the plan decreases access to hospital-based health care services for the majority of Windsor’s population, puts the hospital too far away for most vulnerable patients in Windsor, and will kill the downtown area as residents move to be closer to services. CAMPP has previously argued that the city's information to justify the location is outdated.
