Windsor man charged in Amherstburg break-and-enter

A 37-year-old man has been arrested following a burglary at an Amherstburg business.

Windsor police's Amherstburg detachment responded to a call Sunday night concerning a break-and-enter at the business on Howard Avenue south of County Road 8. Construction and electronic equipment was taken from the establishment. According to public information officer Sergeant Steve Betteridge, the WPS Property Crimes Unit then took the lead in the investigation.

Around 11 a.m. Monday, officers from that unit spotted a person of interest in the case driving a Chevrolet Equinox connected to the crime. Police stopped the vehicle at Walker Road near the E.C. Row Expressway and determined that the SUV was stolen and had a licence plate from another vehicle affixed to it.

The driver, identified by police as Donald Jenkinson of Windsor, was arrested, and a search of the vehicle uncovered a number of items believed to have been taken from the Amherstburg business.

Jenkinson is charged with break-and-enter, possession of stolen property over $5000, and two counts of possession under $5,000. These charges have not yet been proven in court.

An active investigation continues in this incident. Anyone with information should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4350. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
