Flood warning issued for Kingsville

A flood warning has been issued for the Town of Kingsville.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) said Cedar Creek has overtopped its banks and flooded County Road 50 (Heritage Road) between County Road 23 (Arner Townline) and the Cedar Creek Bridge.

ERCA said the flood was caused by the record high water level in Lake Erie combined with a northeast wind.

County Road 50 in Kingsville was closed on Monday but reopened Monday afternoon.

Similar conditions are possible on Tuesday, which could bring similar flooding to this area.

People are urged to avoid this area if possible.

"People should take extra caution to avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant wind/lake events," said ERCA. "The combination of slippery banks, waves, waves overtopping shoreline structures, and fast-moving water can be dangerous."

The remainder of the Essex Region shoreline remains under a flood watch due to the record high lake levels until July 16, 2019.

The flood warning for Kingsville remains in effect until Tuesday at noon.
