A couple of local fire departments are warning the public about scams.
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services and the Leamington Fire Department both want residents to know they are not conducting any campaigns to solicit money from residents, either by phone or by any other way.
"A resident recently received a call and was asked to support the purchase of smoke alarms and other equipment allegedly needed by the department," said Windsor fire officials in a Tuesday afternoon tweet.
Windsor Fire and Rescue added it does not solicit money to pay for equipment and recommends that residents treat any calls like this as a scam.
On June 25, Leamington fire officials tweeted that it is not soliciting funds over the phone or by any other type of communication.
Both Leamington and Windsor fire services want you to call police if you are contacted by anyone soliciting money on their behalf.
Leamington fire officials recommend hanging up and contacting your local OPP detachment.
Windsor fire officials said you can report scams online at police.windsor.on.ca, through Crime Stoppers, or the general non-emergency line at (519) 258-6111 if you receive a call and want to report it to police.
