LaSalle police fighting against dangerous driving

After a dramatic increase in complaints from residents, police in LaSalle are vowing to crack down on dangerous driving.

The LaSalle Police Service released a statement this week explaining that an increase in speeding, aggressive and distracted driving is being recognized as a main concern from residents.

According to police, the number of driving complaints reported to them have increased 64 per cent over the last five years. They added that the percentage of motor vehicle collisions involving injuries has also jumped.

"This matter has not been taken lightly by the administration of the LaSalle Police Service and officers have been directed to concentrate enforcement to address incidents of speeding and aggressive driving within the town," police said in the statement.

They added that the area of Morton Drive between Matchette Road and Front Road is one of the biggest problem spots, along with most of the main roads including Laurier Drive, Front Road, Todd Lane and Huron Church Road.

"There have been several public safety concerns brought forward by local citizens with regards to the manner in which drivers are operating their motor vehicles," police said. "The majority of these issues tend to involve the speed at which vehicles are traveling but also includes aggressive driving, swerving as well as littering."

Besides risky driving, police also said that littering has also become a concern in the area that they hope to help eliminate.
