The City of Windsor marks its 127th birthday with the annual Mayor's Walk and Birthday Celebration Saturday.
The walk starts at Ambassador Park on Windsor's riverfront at 10 a.m. Saturday. From there, it will proceed along the riverfront to the base of the Great Canadian Flag at the foot of Ouellette Avenue for the singing of the national anthem. Afterwards, it will continue back through Dieppe Gardens to the Vision Corridor near Adventure Bay and the Chimczuk Museum.
At 11 a.m., the annual birthday celebration gets underway at the Vision Corridor where free hot dogs and cupcakes will be served.
There will also be family activities like face painting, games, crafts, and entertainment.
Admission will be free to the Chimczuk Museum.
Riverside Drive West will close for a few hours between Church Street and Bruce Avenue for the celebration. The road shuts down at 9 a.m. and reopens at 3 p.m.
The city was incorporated in 1892 but was first inhabited by the Huron, Odawa, Potawatomi and Iroquois First Nations. The first European settlement was founded in 1749 and was first called la Petite Cote or Little Coast.
