The Town of Tecumseh is making improvements to McAuliffe Park.
The washrooms are being renovated and expanded. The work is expected to begin on May 21 and will take about three months to complete.
“McAuliffe Park has become a popular park in town with a number of different activities going on,” said Gary McNamara, mayor of Tecumseh. “Improvements to the park were needed and we are pleased they will be completed this summer.”
Town officials said McAuliffe Park has seen an increase in use thanks to expanded programming at the McAuliffe Park Sports Group.
The park has a lighted baseball diamond, barrier-free playground equipment and two picnic shelters. A splash pad is also planned for the park in 2020.
“Existing washroom facilities at the park are inadequate,” said Paul Anthony, director of parks and recreation. “This work will involve the former Sandwich South Fire Building, which will be upgraded to allow for the washroom expansion."
Anthony added park users will be affected short term but the new facilities will meet the needs of the park for the long term.
Porta-johns will be available at the park during construction.
