Ford to cut back on production at Essex Engine

Another Windsor-Essex auto plant is scaling back on production, according to media reports.

Crain's Automotive News Canada has reported that Ford Canada will be cutting the third shift at the Essex Engine Plant beginning in October. This is due to slowing demand for the 5.0-litre engine in the Ford F-truck series.

The company said, however, that there will be no layoffs attached to this development, and employees on the third shift will have a chance to continue at the plant's Annex, where 7.3-litre engine production takes place.

Two new full shifts are expected to begin in November at the Annex building, which is part of the Windsor Engine Plant and is a 15-minute drive from the Essex Engine Plant.
