A Windsor court cited a lack of training when it handed down a large fine against a Tecumseh company.
The Ministry of Labour said Cybertech Controls and Electric Inc., located at 8555 Twin Oakes Drive in Tecumseh, was fined nearly $88,000 on Monday after a worker was critically hurt on the job at an industrial facility on Sprucewood Avenue in Windsor in February of 2017. The ministry said the employee was injured after falling from the ceiling of the facility while installing new light fixtures.
"The worker was working alone and unsupervised," the ministry said in a news release on Monday afternoon.
Ministry officials added the worker was not protected by fall protection, walked off the elevating lift and fell through the ceiling almost 22 feet to the concrete floor below.
The Ministry of Labour investigation found that the injured worker had not received training on the use of fall protection equipment or working at heights, and had not received training on the use of elevating work platforms.
