Men to walk the runway for kidney research

Men from all walks of life will be models as they walk the runway for a good cause.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada Windsor and District Chapter has announced its model lineup for the fourth annual Celebrity Men's Fashion Event, to be held on Thursday, May 9 at the Water's Edge Event Centre in Windsor.

Fourteen models, ranging from business owners to health care professionals to media personalities, were introduced at a media event on Wednesday, hosted by "Phat Matt" Franklin, afternoon host and program director at Mix 96.7FM, and local actor Michelle Mainwaring.

For Mainwaring, who has co-hosted the event since its inception, it's personal.

"One of my best friends, she had a kidney transplant, and she got me involved," said Mainwaring. "Her sister donated a kidney and I saw what my friend went through. It's important that we give back to the community, so this is my way of helping out a little bit."

When the fundraiser was first held in 2015, Mainwaring was not sure what to expect, but organizers were hoping to have this show stand out from similar fashion shows. Mainwaring said the sole purpose of this event is to have fun.

"We took away from the standard fashion show etiquette, we talk to our models on stage, we get our women in the audience involved, and every year we've seen that part of it grow," said Mainwaring.

Tickets are $60 per person, with $85 for VIP seating, which includes prime seats, two drink tickets and wait service during the show while supplies last. All proceeds benefit the Kidney Foundation.
