Windsor Regional Hospital is on a roll lately when it comes to patient safety.
The board of directors heard about a very rare feat on Thursday afternoon. The Met and Ouellette campuses have had back to back weeks in February without any patients being harmed. That means no hospital acquired infections, no falls, and no lost or misplaced or mislabeled lab specimens.
Clinical Vice President Rosemary Petrakos said getting to zero has taken several years and patient harm has been steadily dropping every year at each campus.
"We've never had back to back at two different sites with zero harm index," said Petrakos.
Ouellette Campus had zero patients harmed during the week of February 3 and Met Campus accomplished the same the following week. Petrakos added that no patients have been harmed so far this week.
Petrakas said it's like winning an Olympic gold medal.
"To get zero, people thought it was impossible. Zero harm is unheard of since we have been measuring this for the last 10 years," she added.
Petrakas said the staff deserve all of the credit because they have done an amazing job.
"It's the staff that is making the changes, it's the staff that is embedding the standard work in what they're doing. The kudos really go to the people working at the bedside," Petrakos said.
