Windsor police now looking into five similar robberies

Windsor police are now saying that two Thursday convenience store robberies may be related to at least three others.

Two robberies that took place on Thursday have similarities to three other incidents that happened this week, according to Windsor police Constable Talya Natyshak. This pair of robberies occurred within about two blocks and a very short time of each other.

The first robbery occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Tecumseh Road E. near Gladstone Avenue. Police say a lone suspect entered the store and demanded money and cigarettes. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken but no cigarettes.

The second took place soon after at a store on Tecumseh Rd. E. near Lincoln Road, though police were not called to that location until about an hour later, said Natyshak. A man entered the store and ordered a clerk to open the cash register. Another employee appeared and chased the suspect out of the store. No money or property was taken in the latter robbery.

The suspect is described in both Thursday incidents as a male, 5' 5" or 5' 6" with a slender build. He was wearing a green construction jacket with a hood. An image taken from one of the store's video surveillance systems is seen above.

Police believe a suspect similar in description hit at least three other convenience stores this week. Two occurred within four days at the Haf-Pack Variety Store on Drouillard Rd. The fifth took place Monday in the Tecumseh Road E. and Lincoln Road area, though it was not clear if it was the same store hit on Thursday.

Descriptions of the suspect in all five robberies include a male of similar height and build, wearing a ski mask each time.

Anyone who can identify the suspect in these robberies or provide additional information is urged to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
