Windsor police are trying to identify a person who used a stolen car to break into a convenience store.
The incident happened early Thursday morning. Officers were dispatched around 4 a.m. to the business on Grand Marais Road East near Elsmere Avenue for a report of a commercial alarm. When police arrived, they spotted an unoccupied black Chrysler Sebring in the parking lot with extensive rear-end damage. There was also serious damage to the front of the store.
The investigation revealed that the suspect used the Sebring, which had been reported stolen to police, to back into the front of the store at a high rate of speed, damaging the facade. Store surveillance camera footage then showed the suspect entering the store and attempting to steal an ATM, leaving the scene when he was unable to do so.
Police believe the suspect then fled in what was described as a late-1990s dark-coloured SUV.
Photos taken from the surveillance cameras have been released by police and can be seen above and below. The suspect is described as a white male, 5'11" with a slender build. He was wearing a blue hoodie, white gloves, and a white mask that partially concealed his identity.
If you recognize the suspect or can provide additional information on this incident, call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4350, or Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
