Ontario's police watchdog has ended an investigation after a man suffered a fractured wrist while in the custody of Windsor police.
The Special Investigations Unit said a 37-year-old man was arrested at his home in connection with a domestic incident on February 6. The following day, the man attended court and was then returned to police custody.
While in his cell, the man punched the cell door. He was then taken to hospital by EMS and diagnosed with a fractured wrist.
"The video evidence establishes the man caused his fractured right wrist when he himself punched the cell door," said SIU Director Tony Loparco. "Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation into this incident."
The SIU investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
