Police collar human trafficking suspect on Highway 401

A Quebec man faces a list of charges after Windsor police tracked a human trafficking suspect to a rest stop near Woodstock over the weekend.

Around 1 p.m. Sunday, police officers responded to a complaint involving human trafficking at a Windsor motel. When they got there, they spoke with a woman who had recently arrived from another province with an acquaintance.

Since she had arrived, the woman alleged the acquaintance had assaulted her and forced her to work in the sex trade.

The suspect had already left, and investigators suspected he was attempting to leave the province, so they contacted other police agencies to help with the search.

Officials from the Ontario Provincial Police in London and Oxford County told BlackburnNews.com Tuesday they assisted with an arrest at the ONroute Centre on Highway 401 near Woodstock Sunday afternoon.

The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate, but the suspect has since been returned to Windsor where he faces charges including forcible confinement, assault, theft under $5,000, uttering threats, and human trafficking.

His name has not been released by police to protect the identity of the victim.
