It will be a little chilly in many schools across Windsor-Essex as students learn about climate change and what can be done to mitigate the impacts on our environment.
Many schools will lower the temperature inside the building to 20 C (68 F) to reduce the carbon footprint. Students are encouraged to wear a sweater to stay comfortable.
It will be an opportunity for students to talk with their teachers about changes in the global climate.
It will also help school boards cut their heating expenses.
The World Wildlife Federation issued a report last October that said wildlife populations around the world have fallen by almost 60 per cent in the past four decades.
Around the world, climate change is impacting humans too. Extreme droughts, floods, wildfires, heatwaves and cold snaps are becoming more common.
The federation said since 2010, more than a million Canadians have shown support by turning down their thermostats and wearing a sweater.
