At least one Essex County community is keeping an eye on a potential flooding situation in Chatham-Kent.
The Town of Lakeshore's public works and fire departments are monitoring an ice jam on the Thames River at the Prairie Siding Bridge near Jeanette's Creek. The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning as a result of this development.
According to a release by Rita Chappell, Lakeshore's manager of communications and strategic initiatives, the unpredictability of the ice jam is keeping the town's resources on its toes.
"Should conditions of the ice jam itself change, there could be additional impacts along the downstream portions of the river through the Raleigh and Dover areas and into the town of Lakeshore, including Lighthouse Cove," said Chappell. "Residents should pay close attention to local conditions and be prepared."
The Lakeshore Fire Department, as well as the public works department, will be ready to respond should that situation arise.
