Ford announces mass layoff at its plant in Flat Rock

Ford has announced it is laying off more than 1,000 workers at its plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

A notice put the number at 1,012 but said the final total would be less than that because of attrition, retirements, transfers, and workers who quit.

The layoff is indefinite and will take effect April 1.

The workers are represented by the United Auto Workers, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Workers of America, and the International Union.

The notice did not say why the company is laying the workers off, but WXYZ in Detroit quotes a spokesperson who said Ford is "rebalancing production" at some U.S. plants.
