A Windsor man will be finding an alternate ride for at least a week after being charged with stunt driving.
Windsor police say an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on the Ojibway Parkway on Wednesday afternoon when a 2015 black Volkswagen was seen travelling almost three times the posted 50 kilometres per hour speed limit. A radar device showed the driver's speed was at 149 kilometres per hour.
The 27-year-old driver was pulled over and cited for stunt driving. His driver's licence was also suspended and his vehicle impounded for seven days. The charge has yet to be proven in court.
WPS Constable Talya Natyshak said if a driver is convicted of stunt driving, fines can range from $2,000 to $10,000. For a first offence, a driver could face a maximum licence suspension of two years and a maximum of six months in jail, along with up to six demerit points under the Highway Traffic Act. For a second conviction within ten years, suspension of a licence could last up to ten years.
