Windsor police seek suspect in New Year's robbery

Windsor police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in a New Year's Day robbery.

Officers were called around 9 p.m. on January 1 to the area of Parent Avenue and Ottawa Street. A man told police he was out walking his dogs when he was robbed at knifepoint. The victim gave the robber some money before the thief left the scene. He was last seen in the area of Ottawa Street and Elsmere Avenue, accompanied by what the victim described as a heavy-set black woman.

On Thursday morning, police released a picture taken of the suspect by the surveillance system of a business. They are asking the public to take a look and contact them if they know who he is.

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s. He stands at around 5' 11" and weighs 160 pounds. He had dark black hair, a scruffy beard and was wearing grey pants, a camouflage jacket, and a New York Yankees toque.

Anyone who can identify the suspect is urged to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
