Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority moves to Sandwich Towne

After sitting empty for almost six years, the former post office on Sandwich Street in Windsor has a new purpose.

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority plans to open a new office there, along with new office space in Southwest Detroit.

The authority said it would be a spot for the public to meet with stakeholders, the project team, ask questions and get information. It hopes to move in in a couple of months.

After closing in April 2013, the building at 3201 Sandwich St. was home to a cafe, which has now closed down.

There is a public open house at the new office on Thursday, January 24 from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The office in Detroit is at 7744 West Vernor Highway.

The bridge authority is also launching a new website and toll-free number.

Now that construction on the Gordie Howe International Bridge is underway, the new website is www.GordieHoweInternationalBridge.com. It will be updated regularly with the latest news, construction activities, and images of the work on the new border crossing.

The project team can also be reached via email at info@wdbridge.com. The toll-free number for both Canadians and Americans is 1-844-322-1773. It will be managed Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"Our hope is that these tools will continue to strengthen and facilitate the relationships we have built and be a clear demonstration of our commitment to keep the public informed," said Bryce Phillips, the CEO of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority.
