Starting at 10 p.m. Monday night, the Ojibway Parkway will be closed to traffic at Highway 401 in both directions.
Ministry of Transportation Communications Co-ordinator Kershonda Hickey says there are eight dates chosen to transport girders for the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
"These girders will be standing over Ojibway Parkway, and other girders will stand over the Essex Terminal railway, and a perimeter access road," she said.
A bridge will extend Highway 401 west to the new border crossing.
Those eight dates are:
* Monday, January 14 * Tuesday, January 15 * Monday, January 21 * Tuesday, January 22 * Monday, January 30 * Tuesday, January 31 * Monday, February 11 * Tuesday, February 12
"It is to ensure there is a limited impact to traffic," said Hickey acknowledging Ojibway Parkway is a busy stretch. "That's why they are conducting these girder installations during the night."
While the Gordie Howe International Bridge is not anticipated to open to traffic until 2024, this specific project should wrap up later this year.
"Overall, this project is expected to be finished at the end of 2019," Hickey said. "I would expect additional closures in the near future."
The closures will depend on weather conditions and the contractor's schedule.
