SIU terminates investigation after suspect hurts himself jumping a fence

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has halted its probe into an incident last November in Amherstburg because the man involved did not want to cooperate with the investigation.

Back on November 30, Amherstburg police officers were controlling traffic at the scene of an apartment fire, when a resident informed them a man was damaging property.

An officer yelled at the suspect to stop, but he fled, jumping over a fence. His foot caught the top of the railing, and he fell.

Although he still managed to run away, officers later found him and took the suspect into custody. He was taken to the hospital with an injury to his pelvis.

SIU Director Tony Loparco says the man spoke briefly with investigators but declined to participate in the investigation.
