Bright Lights a big hit once more

More people have been dazzled by Bright Lights Windsor.

The city's second annual mammoth Christmas light display, held at Jackson Park, finished its run on Sunday night and the display's expansion was a big hit with those who attended, with over 100,000 people walking through the display over the course of the event. That attendance figure was released on Monday, and is a huge increase over the 60,000 who visited in the event's first year of 2017.

The number of lights used was increased by three times the size of the year before, and the number of displays was increased fourfold. The 2018 show also featured vendors with the W.E. Made It Artisanal Market and a trackless train that moved through some of the displays on select evenings.

One of the biggest points of feedback generated by the inaugural 2017 show was a lack of paved walkways through the displays. This was accomplished before this year's Bright Lights. Display hours on certain nights were also extended.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said he is pleased with the overwhelming response Bright Lights has drawn.

“The community can’t wait, and neither can we, to see what Bright Lights Windsor has in store for next year," said Dilkens in a media release. “Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen and to everyone who visited us from near and far."

In addition to the attendance numbers, Bright Lights was also a hit on social media, with multiple posts across various platforms from people visiting from out of town, as well as couples who became engaged while visiting.

The city is expected to begin sorting through feedback from Bright Lights over the weeks ahead and begin planning for next year's display.
