Essex seeks public input on pot shops before making a decision

After delaying a decision whether to opt in or not on pot shops, the Town of Essex wants to know what its residents think.

It has set up an online survey to gather public feedback ahead of its next meeting on January 14.

The survey will be open until 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 11.

Paper surveys are also available at all recreation facilities in Essex.

The province has given municipalities until January 22 to decide whether to allow retail cannabis stores or not.

Essex will not qualify for a store initially after the Ford government decided to limit the number of retail outlets to 25 across the province.

So far, only the Municipality of Leamington has agreed to opt-in. Tecumseh and Lakeshore decided not to, citing concerns about funding and the lack of municipal control over the location of the stores.
