A Windsor man has once again been charged with fraud by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The Mounties said they searched two locations in Windsor on November 21 and arrested a man on several fraud-related charges.
The London Financial Crime Section added the man had been previously convicted of fraud for using the internet to commit rental frauds by advertising and taking payment for the rental of cottages that did not exist.
The RCMP said he is currently on probation, and is charged with committing frauds by using his employment as a salesperson to acquire personal information from the victims, and further using the victims' identities to obtain payday loans over the internet. The RCMP added the total fraud is believed to be between $12,000 and $20,000, with further potential victims having been identified as a result of the searches.
Matthew Jonsson, 28, of Windsor has been charged with one count each of the following charges:
• Fraud Over $5,000; • Possession of the proceeds of crime; • identity fraud; and • breach of probation.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Jonsson appeared in London court on November 23 for a bail hearing but remains in custody until his next appearance on November 26.
