Thousands of Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans recalled

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling 10,000 Windsor-built 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans, including 1,086 in Canada.

The automaker said the engine may experience a mis-synchronization, which could cause overheating of the catalytic converter on certain Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), during auto start. In plain English, it means the gasoline engine might not start properly after the vehicle has been operating in its plug-in (electric) driving mode, resulting in unburned gasoline entering the exhaust catalyst. That fuel could potentially ignite, increasing the chances of a vehicle fire.

FCA adds this could also potentially lead to a loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash and injury and/or damage to property.

Dealers will update the power control module (PCM) software to detect and correct the engine mis-synchronization and will inspect the catalytic converter and replace it if necessary.

FCA said it will contact those customers affected.
