A 19-year-old man is charged with a homicide that took place early Thursday morning.
Windsor police say officers were sent to the intersection Giles Boulevard East and McDougall Street around 4:35 a.m. after reports of a stabbing. When they got there, there were several witnesses gathered around a 25-year-old Windsor man who had been seriously injured.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died of his injuries. Police then opened a homicide investigation.
Upon interviewing witnesses at the scene, police were able to locate the suspect. The man was arrested at a home on Church Street near Tecumseh Road West around 5:30 a.m.
WPS Deputy Chief Brad Hill said the incident was a domestic disturbance that appeared to get out of hand.
"The victim and the accused are related, and it is the result of a family argument," said Hill.
Police have charged Isaiah Calero of Windsor with one count of second-degree murder.
This charge has yet to be proven in court.
This is the tenth murder investigation in Windsor this year. Hill said this increase in homicides is something that he has not really seen before.
"It is troubling that we've had this many," said Hill. "It's certainly more than we've had in my history as a police officer and I've been a police officer almost 35 years, and we are certainly into unchartered territory."
Hill did point out that all of the recent homicides are individual events and with the exception of one, all have had a suspect in custody or identified.
Anyone with information on Thursday morning's incident who has not already spoken with police is urged to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, or Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
