The Downtown Mission is receiving a much-needed boost from CUPE Local 27.
CUPE has presented a cheque for $4,000 to help restock the food bank.
Thousands of people rely on the mission for food, clothing, and other necessities.
“CUPE 27 recognizes how important it is to give back to those who need it most in our community,” said Fred Jamieson, president of CUPE 27. “The Downtown Mission does admirable work for those who are less fortunate in Windsor, and CUPE 27 is proud to assist them in meeting demand for their services."
“We at the Downtown Mission are so grateful for this very generous gift from CUPE Local 27," said Ron Dunn, executive director of the Downtown Mission. "Recently, we have seen a significant increase of food bank visitors, up to over 2,000 per month from the 1,100 or so we were used to seeing monthly only six months ago."
The Downtown Mission lost a lot of their food due to flooding a few weeks ago.
“Poverty is not discriminatory, it is all around us," Dunn adds. "We thank all those who contribute to the Downtown Mission.”
