A windy forecast has prompted the Essex Region Conservation Authority to keep a closer eye on the Lake Erie shoreline.
ERCA has issued a watershed conditions statement for the weekend, affecting the Lake Erie shoreline in the municipality of Leamington between Wheatley Harbor and the tip of Point Pelee, as well as the north and easterly shoreline of Pelee Island.
The weather forecast is calling for sustained winds from the east at 20 to 30 kilometres per hour, with gusts up to 40 kilometres per hour. ERCA said these wind conditions are expected to end overnight Friday into Saturday with winds shifting northeast and north-northeast with similar speeds.
The current wind forecast and lake water elevations are below flood watch thresholds, but based on these conditions there is the possibility for near shore erosion with wave overtopping and spray.
ERCA will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
