New look for Amherstburg police cruisers in January

When the Windsor Police Service takes over in January, residents in Amherstburg may notice the cruisers look a little different.

The fleet is being updated with a brand new look.

The town said the public chose the design Saturday during an official in-person poll at King's Navy Yard Park.

The public was invited to vote on one of two designs displayed at the Amherstburg Police Services' Ice Cream with a Cop social.

The town said 66 per cent of those who voted opted for a design that features text similar to what is currently on Windsor police cruisers, but "embraces Amherstburg's history and heritage."

The new design will show 1812-era soldiers in red coats carrying muskets.

Windsor police take over policing in Amherstburg on January 1, 2019.
