Point Pelee National Park will join national parks and conservation areas across the country this weekend in hosting a shoreline cleanup.
The local community is invited to come out this Saturday to pick up marine debris on the lakeshore.
Participants are asked to meet at the West Beach parking lot at 10 a.m. for instructions and supplies. Admission to the park is free for those taking part, and the event runs until 2 p.m.
If you are going, park staff recommend wearing long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, a hat and closed-toe shoes. A water bottle, sunscreen and rain gear is also recommended.
Marine debris, including plastic waste, is a threat to all waterways. The most common items picked up in cleanups are pieces of foam plastic, cigarette butts, plastic drink bottles, bottle caps, and food wrappers.
